DEFINITIONS
AMV: edits and shots taken from a manga and/or its anime adaptation then put together to music and shot transitions
donghua: a term used to describe Chinese animation
dongman: Chinese term for Japanese anime
fansong: an original song made to celebrate another artists’ own creations
dubbed: voicing over a show in a different language
fansubbing: fans of an anime put subtitles on each episode to help others understand what characters are saying.
fanwork: creations featuring characters from an already published work imagined in another scene
genre terms:
shonen​: geared towards young boys
shojo: geared towards young girls
josei: geared towards women
seinen: geared towards young men. Can also be used to describe an anime with more serious/darker themes
kodomo: geared towards children
isekai: anime that takes place in a parallel universe
slice of life: anime that shows the happenings of everyday life
manga: Japanese comics
manhua: Chinese comics
manhwa: South Korean comics
nightcore: music that is an edited version of an existing song sped up by about 35%. Popularized by the Japanese rhythm gaming platform Osu!, which also contains lots of music from anime culture
vtubing: a streamer would use a 3D model that follows their movement through a web camera, then present that 3D model as their virtual self for viewers to see. Usually VTuber avatars are cartoonish and feature many characteristics of anime and manga-inspired art, such as large starry eyes, exaggerated facial expressions, colourful hair and striking fashion, and pale skin
